Facebook Cambrian Mountain Events
We are excited to host the “Cambrian Endurance Spartan” again this year...
The gruelling 65k point-to-point test over the Cambrian Mountains is hosted in mid-winter and MUST BE completed in under 12hours to earn the coveted Endurance Spartan Series patch.
We welcome Entrants to take it on in the “load-bearing” category, but strongly advise that is will be a “very tall order” to complete it successfully in under 12 hours, where such demanding and strenuous tests are usually expected to be completed in under 24hrs. To make this “tall order” somewhat achievable, we have even reduced the loadbearing weight to 35lbs/16kg (excluding food & water), in our search for the true Spartans out there. This is not to be trifled, as it still is a mammoth task to successfully undertake and complete it in a “clean-fatigue” category in under 12 hours. It is only for the true Spartans out there ……
The Event is classified in a "Hi- Endurance/Extreme" category, which requires the participants to possess a high level of fitness, have extensive experience in similar HiEndurance Events, possess very good navigational skills, plus a high level of physical and metal resolve to safely undertake and successfully complete the event in such exposed Wilderness Terrain with the very good possibility of all the elements of adverse mountain weather being against you.
Most of you who find this challenge of interest would have heard of, know of, or have partaken in the infamous Military Selection Course across the Brecon Beacons. The Cambrian Endurance is of the same calibre, which will brutally test your stamina and will-power against the clock over the desolate, challenging and wild terrain on the Cambrian Mountains.
Steep ascents, precarious descents, wild river crossings and un-pathed boggy terrain littered with babies-heads form a majority of this testing and gruelling course. Have you got what it takes? …… Do you dare??
It is definitely NOT for the inexperienced or faint-hearted – DO NOT ENTER if you do not meet the required entry criteria!
Starting-out at the carpark on the side of the Llyn Brianne Reservoir in the Tywi Forest, the route heads-out North skirting the West-side of the Forest to Cefncerrig; to continue on the Cambrian Way over Garn Gorn to Strata Florida; then continues through Ffair-Rhos to Pant y Gwaith; then continues on the Pontrhydfendigaid Trail past Pant-y-ffynnon to Pont-rhyd-y-groes; then continues East along the Trail and the banks of the Afon Ystwyth to Cwmystwyth; then heads North through the Cwmystwyth Village to Lluest, to follow the Pontrhydfendigaid Trail for a short distance, to then leave the Trail and head-up to the summit of Pen Lan-fawr; from the Summit the route heads North/East to the top of Llyn Isaf, to the head due-West to the “red shed” on Esgair Maingwynion; then the route continues over Esgair Maingwynion , Banc Llwyd Mawr and Ffos Gau to cross the Ford and head up to Bwlch y Cloddiau; then continues through Esgair Ychion to Troed-yr-esgair to follow the Wye Valley Walk Trail to Llangurig; then continuing North/East past Marsh’s Pool, Cefn-ybwlch, to Felindre Bridge; to finally join and follow Penygreen Road into the Llanidloes Town Centre and the Finish.
With an Ascent of 6,000ft this truly testing route, even though scenic and spectacular across the course, is not to be trivialised; as without question it will push the participants to their limits and test their perceived boundaries beyond their wildest expectations. It is definitely not for the faint-hearted!
The route WILL NOT be waymarked!
There will be manned Check Point Stations (CP), unmanned Emergency Rendezvous Stations (ERv), Mountain Safety Teams in attendance, and Sweeper Teams on foot or in off-road vehicles as deemed necessary by the Event Organisation Team to instil our duty of care to the capable Entrants who take part; but definitely NOT to “baby-sit” or “escort” incapable Entrants. If in doubt of your capability to safely undertake and complete this event, in the first instance – DO NOT ENTER!
There are sections of the route through private "working" Farmland with expressive permission from the landowners, for the Event day only. Participants must stringently respect this, adhere to any notices or rules displayed and ensure all closed gates are left closed and open gates left as found when travelling through.
Event notifications and information will be sent by email (to the email address you use to register your Entry) and also posted on our Facebook Page.
